Preserving Vasa

From surface flecks to weakened interior. More than a decade of cross-disciplinary research is strengthening our understanding of what is going on inside Vasa's wood.

Battle!

Vasa never saw battle, but she was one of the most heavily armed war machines of her time.

Skeletons from Vasa

Studies of the skeletal remains that were found during the excavation of Vasa give us more knowledge of the people who died on board and thereby a deeper understanding of Vasa and her time.

The Power and the Glory

In The Power and the Glory, we get a glimpse of what Vasa’s colours really looked like when the ship sailed out of Stockholm’s harbour. Like the hull of Vasa, the sculptures today have a dark brown colour shaped by time underwater and conservation efforts. But research shows a very different picture of the ship. Vasa sparkled with color!
