The Vasa Piglet

Join the Vasa Piglet on an adventure! One day a piglet called Lindbom leaves his beloved mud puddle and heads out on on a great adventure on board the warship Vasa. The film is based on the book "The Vasa

The Disaster

It was the 10th of August 1628, when Vasa, the most powerful warship in the Baltic, foundered in Stockholm harbour before the eyes of a large audience, scant minutes after setting sail for the first time

The Museum

The Vasa Museum has become a natural part of Stockholm's skyline. Its masts rising high above Djurgården have become a beacon guiding curious tourists and Stockholmers alike. Vasa has not always been housed such splendour. From her salvaging in 1961 until 1988 Vasa's home was a 27-year long temporary one at the Wasavarvet Museum.

Loss of life force

to Rena The MV Rena wreck wasn’t just an environmental disaster; it also had a huge cultural impact on local Iwi (tribes). They were worried about the effects of the oil spill and debris on the environment environment, especially the health of the kaimoana (the Māori word for seafood).

The warship Vasa to be supported with Swedish steel from Alleima

The Vasa Museum has chosen the Swedish speciality steel company Alleima as its key partner in the Support Vasa project. Alleima brings unique expertise and is sponsoring the Vasa Museum with all the steel steel needed for the ship's new internal support structure, a steel skeleton. The work to replace Vasa’s support structure is expected to be completed in 2028, just in time for the ship's 400th anniversary

Vasa's new support

The warship Vasa needs a new support structure. The support structure that has been holding Vasa since the 1960s needs to be replaced, as it is damaging the ship and causing deformations in the hull. This due to the weakening of the ship’s wood. The entire support structure will be replaced over the course of several years, starting in April 2024. The new support structure is based on many years of research

The Power and the Glory

In The Power and the Glory, we get a glimpse of what Vasa’s colours really looked like when the ship sailed out of Stockholm’s harbour. Like the hull of Vasa, the sculptures today have a dark brown colour shaped by time underwater and conservation efforts. But research shows a very different picture of the ship. Vasa sparkled with color!

Deformation monitoring

measuring 400 points on Vasa, it is possible to study the ship’s deformation over time. These so-called geodetic measurements have been taken twice a year since the year 2000, and take two people about two weeks
