Skråkappor or containers for canister shot?

The Game of Swedish Tables

found at the rear of the ship. The find revived interest in the 400-year-old game of Swedish Tables, a variant of backgammon. The Swedish-Tables Association of the Vasa Museum was founded by The Friends Friends of the Vasa Museum in 1993. Games take place in the museum every week and anyone can play. Collections

The Vasa Museum collections include the more than 40 000 objects that were found in and around the ship. The objects and ship give a unique picture of everyday life at sea and on land, and of shipbuilding shipbuilding techniques and nautical warfare in the early 1600s. Objects not on display are stored in one of our two museum stores. You can search The Vasa Museum collections on DigitaltMuseum below.

Climate control

climate is one of the most important aspects in preserving archaeological materials. Organic materials such as wood are sensitive to environmental changes, especially humidity. If the humidity is too high it favours biological activity and the conservation agent used to preserve the ship becomes sticky and attracts dust. If the humidity is too low there is risk that the wood will dry and crack and shrink
