Climate control

stable climate is one of the most important aspects in preserving archaeological materials. Organic materials such as wood are sensitive to environmental changes, especially humidity. If the humidity is too it favours biological activity and the conservation agent used to preserve the ship becomes sticky and attracts dust. If the humidity is too low there is risk that the wood will dry and crack and shrink

Preserve Vasa

In the exhibition "Preserve Vasa," visitors can follow the ongoing struggle to preserve the ship for the future. For 333 years, Vasa lay in the murky waters of Stockholm's harbor before being salvaged

Collections

The Vasa Museum collections include the more than 40 000 objects that were found in and around the ship. The objects and ship give a unique picture of everyday life at sea and on land, and of shipbuilding shipbuilding techniques and nautical warfare in the early 1600s. Objects not on display are stored in one of our two museum stores. You can search The Vasa Museum collections on DigitaltMuseum below.

Vasa's Women

always present, often invisible. In the exhibition on the women of Vasa, visitors have the opportunity to learn about important but previously unknown narratives on Vasa. The researchers’ work reveals a partially partially new and surprising image of the living conditions of women during the early part of the 17th century.
