Outside the museum you can experience the Vasa Walk – an audio walk produced by the Vasa Museum, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, and the “Promenad” app. Follow the warship Vasa’s history on a free audio walk through the Djurgården area and Beckholmen island, narrated by Fred Hocker, Director of Research at the Vasa Museum.

The Vasa Walk takes you on a journey through the warship Vasa’s history – in the very places where it actually unfolded. Together with Fred Hocker, Director of Research at the Vasa Museum, you will travel 400 years back in time to Stockholm in the 1620s and discover the story of one of the world's most famous ships. Hear about the sinking in 1628 and the dramatic salvage operation 333 years later – initiated by KTH alumnus Anders Franzén – as well as the work to preserve and display the ship since then.

The walk starts outside the Vasa Museum, continues through the Djurgården area and ends on the island of Beckholmen. Through sound, music, historical reenactments and visual elements, the places and people of Vasa’s story come to life around you.

How?

To take the walk, download the free “Promenad” app from the App Store or Google Play. You use your own mobile phone, so remember to bring headphones.

About the Vasa Walk

The Vasa Walk is part of the Support Vasa project – the Vasa Museum’s largest preservation initiative since the salvaging and conservation of the ship in the 1960s.

The audio walk is a collaboration between the Vasa Museum, the “Promenad” app, and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, with funding from the Torsten Söderberg Foundation.
