Listen to a cultural and historical lecture while enjoying afternoon tea with freshly baked scones, two kinds of marmalade, cheeses, and the museum’s signature treat, the Cannonball.

The salvage and excavation of Vasa in 1961 is considered the starting point of modern maritime archaeology. Even today, the discovery continues to influence maritime archaeological work around the world. But Vasa is also part of a larger story—one where new technology and a strong sense of curiosity made it possible for more people to dive and explore underwater environments.

It was during this time that filmmaker James Cameron’s interest in the ocean was sparked. As a child, he was fascinated by the depths and the unknown beneath the surface.

Fred Hocker, Director of Research at the Vasa Museum, talks about Anders Franzén, Per Edvin Fälting, and other pioneers who explored the depths of the sea during this era.

Afternoon tea is served from 2:30 PM, and the lecture begins at 3:30 PM.
