A painted model of Vasa in scale 1:10 gives the visitor an idea of how the ship might have looked as she sailed out in 1628.

This tenth-scale model of the Vasa gives a picture of how the ship looked when she sailed out in 1628. The model was crafted by four model builders at the Maritime Museum in Stockholm. The work took 12,000 hours over five years, and the model was in place in the ship hall when the Vasa Museum opened on June 15, 1990.

Initially, only the gun port lids with their lion mascarons and the Vasa coat of arms on the model's stern were painted. However, after extensive research, the principles of the ship’s original paintwork have been clarified, allowing for an interpretation of how the Vasa looked when she sailed. The model is adorned with over 500 sculptures.
